Hot water cylinders don’t last like they used to!
Years ago, they could go for 40–50 years — now most last 10 to 15 years before needing replacement. If yours is getting older, it’s worth keeping an eye out for leaks or signs of wear.
1. Checking for Leaks
If your water bill suddenly jumps, a plumber will often start by checking your relief valves. These valves release excess pressure but can sometimes drip continuously, wasting water. You can also look for dampness around the cylinder or listen for hissing sounds — both can be signs of a problem.
2. Replacing or Relocating Your Cylinder

3. Low or Mains Pressure
